Come See Us on Saturday at Netroots Nation

Tony KreindlerThis post is by Tony Kreindler, media director for the National Climate Campaign at Environmental Defense Fund.

Quick post because I'm about to get on an airplane to join the migration to Austin for Netroots Nation 2008

Environmental Defense Fund is hosting a reception in Exhibit Hall 4, Saturday evening at 7pm, just before the keynote speech. If you're attending the conference, stop by for free beer and to meet Lisa Moore, myself, and some EDF folks from the Austin office.

The Problem with the Pew Poll

Sheryl CanterThis post is by Sheryl Canter, an online writer and editorial manager at Environmental Defense Fund.

According to a poll conducted in June by the Pew Research Center, soaring gas prices have caused a significant shift in American attitudes in just four months. American priorities, they say, have shifted strongly towards energy exploration and drilling, and away from conservation.

Is environmentalism dead, or is this result mainly due to how Pew framed the survey questions? I think the latter.

Call-in Show Debating Climate Change Bill

Sheryl CanterThis post is by Sheryl Canter, an online writer and editorial manager at Environmental Defense Fund.

Our own Steve Cochran was on C-Span's Washington Journal this morning with David Kreutzer of the Heritage Foundation (a conservative think tank), debating the Climate Security Act under consideration by the Senate this week. The hour-long call-in show got pretty animated at times. You can watch it on C-Span's Web site.

Another New TV Ad: 'Melt'

This post is by Tony Kreindler, media director for the National Climate Campaign at Environmental Defense Fund.

As promised, here's a look at the other TV ad we've launched as the full Senate prepares to debate the Climate Security Act.

This ad shows a naysayer literally melting away: "Melt" TV ad.

What do you think? Yesterday's ad, "Grounded", is my personal favorite. Please pass along whichever one you like better!

New TV Ad: 'Grounded' by Falling Oil Drums

This post is by Tony Kreindler, media director for the National Climate Campaign at Environmental Defense Fund.

The Senate floor debate about the Climate Security Act is scheduled to start next week, so we have two new ads running in key states.

This one has gotten good reactions (and a few winces): "Grounded" TV ad.

What do you think? If you like it, make sure to rate it and share it! Tomorrow, I'll post another ad, called "Melt."

Floridians Who Are Part of the Solution

Sheryl CanterThis post is by Sheryl Canter, an online writer and editorial manager at Environmental Defense Fund.

Last week I posted links to some ads we're running on the importance of passing climate change legislation. We have a new group of ads running now in Florida, and they're really interesting to watch.

Each of the nine new ads features a different business person in Florida who is either manufacturing something green or using green technology in his or her business. The spots are interesting and encouraging - and short (it won't take you long to look). What do you think?

Do These Videos Make the Point?

We've created some 30-second spots on the importance of passing climate change legislation, and we'd like your feedback on them.

The "American Voices" videos, which will run on WashingtonPost.com, feature regular Americans talking about how climate change affects them personally:

Got a bike? Got strong thighs? Want to tell Washington what you think about climate change?

Sign up for Climate Ride 2008, a 5-day, 320-mile bike ride from New York City to Washington, D.C. on September 20-24. Climate 411 has great content. But you may have noticed that - until today - it's been hard to find things in our archive. Our topic categories evolved organically as we posted, and what we ended up with wasn't very useful.

No more! Check out our new, improved, and actually useful "Posts by Topic" list. Click on EPA and Tailpipe Emissions or Climate Change Legislation to learn what's going on in those quarters. Our Science category is now broken into subtopics like Arctic and Antarctic, Basic Science, and Plants and Animals. Plus you'll find posts on Health, Green Living, and much more.

Check it out and let us know what you think.
